CONNECTING TO MIDDLE EASTERN ART AND CULTURE

Beauty through Geometry project provided at-risk first and second language students of English an opportunity to explore the beauty and sophistication of Islamic art and architecture, challenging stereotypes pervasive in mainstream media. The grant included a Digital Story segment narrating a personal connection to Middle Eastern art and culture.

Facilitated by Jode Brexa and Art Teacher Sarah Flynn and funded by a Teaching Excellence and Achievement Alumni Grant, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State.

AUDIENCE: A poster presentation on the project was shared at a district-wide showcase.
