VOICES OF YOUNG LEADERS

2014 | Welwitschia Residence, University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa

Voices of Young Leaders engaged eleven tenth graders with limited computer literacy from a rural school in a former township in Free State, South Africa in the emotional process of facing grief, loss, and addiction.  In supported follow-up focus groups, learners spoke about emerging with increased self-esteem and self-confidence.

Facilitated by Jode Brexa and Welwitschia Young Women Leaders at the University of the Free State and funded by a mini-grant from Columba Leadership, South Africa.

AUDIENCE:  Stories served as models for 300 peer-leaders at a Columba Leadership Connections event in December, 2014, and as inspiration for thirty adult Mentor Teachers in a UFS program supporting underperforming schools in the Free State, South Africa.
